What is Haibane Renmei?

灰羽連盟 (Romaji: Haibane Renmei, English: Charcoal Feather Federation) is a 2002 anime directed Yoshitoshi ABe. The narrative follows a young girl named Rakka who hatches from in egg into a world of haibane, which are angel adjacent beings. The haibane are sanctioned to the city of Glie, where no one not allowed to exit by any circumstances. The project was based off of an unfinished 1998 doujin of the same name and artist.

Who is Reki?

Reki (Kanji: 礫, formerly 轢) is one of the secondary characters of Haibane Renmei. In the narrative, Rakka primarily resides in Old Home; a hatching place for new haibane and a sort of free boarding house for them. Reki takes care of Rakka throughout the series, acting as a source of guidance for her.

Why make a shrine?

I made a shrine for the reason most people make web shrines; I love and resonated with Reki. I think about her character and the general show in shifting periods of my life, and it's comforting.

Haibane Renmei is very universal in its message. Universality is everywhere in media, but it was refreshing to see it cover a more abstract experience; self-loathing, ostracization and their inherently sinful natures (regardless of religious context). Reki is special in that she is a manifestation of Haibane Renmei's narrative, all the isolation and mental anguish confined to a single character, her dedicated scene, full of catharsis.

Here is an image of me marrying Reki. It's a real image, Reki herself confirmed it. Go ask her. Nonbelivers will be shunned!!!!!!!!!!!!!
